February 07, 2006 - 7:40 p.m. - A word that connotes a social climber What's that word that adequately describes people who feel the need to social climb? Who come from seemingly humble backgrounds, but because of a newfound wealth, everything they have to do now, has to be of a certain standard. They have to wear designer clothes, or nothing else, they have to mingle with affluent people, or no one else, they have to fly business class, or they have to stay at the Hilton or Four Seasons or some other reputable five star establishment or nowhere else. It's all about maintaining some kind of social status for them. What are they called? I have the term right at the tip of my tongue but I cannot seem to get at it. Inasmuch as I am a firm believer in the terms that "cheap is not in," I think an over fascination with all these bourgeosie lifestyles to the extent that you cannot wear or own anything below a certain dollar amount or stay at the Holiday Inn, is just cutting it a little close. back track - fast forward - history aphie's chronicles - aphie's transcripts tell aphie you read her work -
